Ametrine is a transparent crystals that is composed of silicon dioxide and is a member of the Quartz group of minerals. Ametrine appeared on the market in the early 1980s, and at first many had doubts about it being a natural quartz variety and not some fancy artificial product.
The only known and well confirmed location for ametrine is an area in Bolivia near the Brazilian border.
There are similar specimens in India, and Brazil.
Ametrine crystals are made of alternating sectors of purple and yellow to an orange colour. Slabs cut perpendicular to the c axis of the crystal look a bit like a pinwheel with three sectors of purple and three sectors of yellow.
Ametrine is in a sense much more an amethyst than it is citrine. As in amethyst, the colour of the violet sectors is caused by the presence of iron built into its crystal framework as a replacement for silica and subsequent irradiation from radioactive elements. As in citrine, the colour of the yellow sectors is caused either by inclusions of iron compounds or by iron ions built into the crystal lattice. The concentration of iron is much higher in the yellow than in the violet sectors.
Ametrine’s abrupt colour transition reflects slight fluctuations in temperature and pressure during its formation. Depending on these factors, iron impurities could lead to the formation of amethyst or citrine zones within a quartz stone.
chakra energy and ametrine
Ametrine releases blocked energy from the solar plexus, crown, and third eye chakras, which are the chakras associated with citrine, amethyst, and ametrine as a whole, respectively.
You may want to use it in specific situations where the energy of one of its corresponding chakras is either blocked or excessive in a way that relates to one of its other chakras.
The three chakras it rules are the solar plexus chakra, which rules ambition; the third eye chakra, which rules imagination; and the crown chakra, which rules spirituality.
If you feel like one of these chakras is sluggish, and needs some of the energy from one of the other three, place an ametrine stone against the blocked chakra and feel the energy from the healthy chakra pouring into the underactive one.
Ametrine and yin Yang Energy
Ametrine blends masculine and feminine energy – the masculine energy of citrine, and the feminine energy of amethyst.
Because of this, it is a very beneficial stone for sexuality, where a balance of masculine and feminine energies is important, remember though masculine and feminine, is not the same as male and female.
Even in same-sex relationships, an overload of one type of energy is a recipe for trouble.
If you feel like the energy of your relationship with your partner is unbalanced, place an ametrine stone next to your bed. Its energy will help keep the energy levels equalized, and prevent one form of energy from taking over completely.
This idea can also be applied to other situations – lots of human interactions and relationships rely on an effective balance of masculine and feminine energies. If you feel that any of your other relationships, personal or professional, have unbalanced energy, ametrine can help you.
