What is Colour and why use it for healing?
What does colour have to do with healing? Simply, the different frequencies of light (the colours) will affect different energies of the body. Some colours can more easily affect the higher frequencies of the brain because they have a higher light wave frequency. Other colours can affect the systems of energies in the body because they have a lower light wave frequency.
To fully understand this concept you need to understand that we are an energy system and we are formed of different vibrations. This vibration is the result of the movement of electrons and protons within the atoms that make up the body. All things have a vibration because they all have atoms.
The human body has many energy fields and these fields surround and emanate and can interact with the physical body and its various functions. If something irritating enters the body, it can result in a disruption of the normal vibration patterns. Something is then needed to rebalance the vibrational energy.
Vibrational remedies are subtle energy stimuli which interact with the energy system of the body to help stabilise physical, emotional, mental and spiritual conditions.
Some of the most effective vibrational remedies are sound, aroma, flower and crystal water, crystals and stones, thoughts and colour.
Effect of Colour
Colour is a concentration of a certain light frequency. Colour can be stimulating or depressing, constructive or destructive. It can repel or attract. Each colour has its own unique effect and can be used for healing and balancing, as well as for stimulating deeper levels of consciousness.
Colour is broken down into three categories:
Common ailments and beneficial colours
This is only a guideline, it is not designed to replace traditional medicine. It is a set of suggestions to help you find a starting point in working with colour and crystals. It is a way for you to to be able to participate more fully in your own haling process. Use it so that you can develop your own system of application. Find out what works for you. You may need to apply different colours with different intensities. Often experimentation is the only way we have of discovering what works for each individual.
Begin all healing with a white or colourless crystal and end the healing process with a white or colourless crystal. This amplifies the healing effect and it serves to keep the healing from aggravating a condition. It also provides balance.
The red spectrum affects the physical, and is stimulating and warming. Blues are cooling and cleansing, affecting the spiritual energies. Yellow affects the mental energies and serve as a bridge between the physical an the spiritual.
All three together provide opportunities for healing body, mind and spirit.
Colour therapy for the chakras
Because the human body is an energy system, we can use different energy forms to interact with the functions of that system. Understanding the human chakra system is the key to understanding how to use colour as a part of the healing process. The word "chakra' comes from the Sanskrit, and it means wheel.
Chakras are the primary mediators of all energy coming into and radiating our from the body. They mediate the impulses of our energy system. Although not part of the physical body, they link the subtle energy fields surrounding the body to the activities of the body itself.
The chakras help the body distribute energy for its various physical, emotional , mental and spiritual functions. They are connected to the functions of the physical body primarily through the endocrine glands and spinal system. They mediate energy inside and outside of the body through the various spinal contacts. This energy is distributed throughout the body by means of the nerve pathways and the circulatory system. In this way, all of the organs, tissues and cells receive the vibrational energy accordingly.
One of the most effective means of restoring balance is through the use of colour. Individual chakras and the related organs and systems in the body will respond to specific colours. If there is an imbalance, we can use colours to restore balance to the chakra and therefore to those systems and energies of the body mediated by the chakra. The colour vibrations interact with the electromagnetic emanations of the body. They are transmitted to the vertebrae of the spine. The vertebrae transfers the colour frequencies along the nerve pathways to the organs and systems of the body, restoring balance. This applies also to those emotional and mental imbalances that can cause or aggravate the physical problems.
